Setting Up Your Win-Back Machine

A loyal customer base is built on re-engagement. With Discountify, you can set a "win-back" strategy in motion once and let it run forever.
Here is how to configure your Inactive Customer discount rule to start bringing familiar faces back to your checkout.
Step 1: Create a New Rule
Navigate to the Inactive Customer box in your Discountify dashboard. Click Manage Discount Rule, then navigate to Create from the tabs. This tells the app to specifically target customers based on how long it has been since their last order.
Step 2: Define "Inactivity" (Duration)
What does an "inactive" customer look like to your brand? Is it someone who hasn't visited in 30 days, or someone who has been away for 3 months?
In Step 2, you can select the duration in Days or Months.
Pro Tip: If you sell consumables (like skincare or coffee), set your duration to 15-20% longer than the life of your product. If your product lasts 30 days, set a win-back rule for 35 Days to catch them exactly when they are ready to restock.
Step 3: Choose Your Reward Type
How will you say "Welcome Back"? You have two main options for the discount value:
- Percentage Discount: (e.g., 10% off) A versatile choice for most stores.
- Fixed Amount: (e.g., $10 off) Often very effective for win-back campaigns as it feels like a "Gift Credit" they are about to lose out on.
Step 4: Customize Your Email Message
The "win-back" email should feel personal. In the email customization section, you have full control over the email body.
Don’t just send a code - tell them what they’ve missed! You might mention a new collection you’ve launched or simply say that you’ve missed seeing them around. A warm, brand-aligned message significantly increases the chances of a click.
Step 5: Automation in Action
Once saved, your rule is active. Our background scheduler scans your customer list at regular automated intervals throughout the day. When a customer hits your inactivity threshold:
- They are automatically added to the queue.
- A unique discount code is generated just for them.
- Your customized email is delivered straight to their inbox.
Step 6: Iterate and Grow
While you don't need to monitor the app daily, we recommend occasionally checking your Shopify discount usage to see which win-back offers are performing best. You might find that a $15 Fixed Amount works better than a 15% discount for customers who have been away for more than 3 months.
